Hollywood Bowl (1960-1969)

2301 Highland Ave
Capacity 17, 256
Opened 1922

Since the Beatles played here in 1964, the Hollywood Bowl has become the ultimate venue for any rock band to play.

Probably the first genuine pop star to play here was Frank Sinatra in 1943.

The Hollywood Bowl is the summer home of the Los Angeles Philharmonic. It's a tradition to go to the Bowl to hear Symphonies Under the Stars.

However, in the '60, the Bowl decided to present a few pop concerts under the stars that would sure to please a younger audience.

Thanks for putting this together. Upon hearing that Mary Travers had died, I went onto your site to find the dates of the concert I way of PP and M at the Bowl. Reminded me of seeing Donovan there too. Thanks for helping bring back some great memories.

Thanks for putting this together.
I don't know how you did it.
I have looked for many years for the exact date of the evening I saw the Kingston Trio and the Dave Brubeck Quartet at the Hollywood Bowl.
Now I know - June 23, 1962.
That seems about right in my memory.
One of the most fantastic evenings of my whole life.
Thanks again.

I attended the 1965 Beach Boys and I don't think Kinks were there. Sonny and cher were. I have always said that Jackie Deshannon was there.

The Beach Boy's Summer Spectacular at the Hollywood Bowl DID NOT have the Kinks, Sonny & Cher nor was Jackie DeShannon there. However I was there and remember Neil Diamond all by himself, dressed in black. I loved the Byrds, Lovin Spoonful, and the rest of the amazing show, although I recall most all of the bands did three songs, the stage would turn around and another band was ready to go! I had scored box seats and was only 13, but I was in kinder-groupie heaven!!!
