the single Vacation is released!

The single for Vacation would also be released as a NEW FORMAT as cassette single. This would be a first for any record label. So --- The GO-GO's had the FIRST cassette single in history.

The Go-Go's go on tour to Japan and Australia - June 13 -29, 1982.  They are touring this time with the British band -  Flock of Seagulls.

Tokyo's Shibuya Kokaido Hall first opened its doors in 1964, when it served as the Tokyo Olympic weightlifting venue for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. For over 40 years it has staged both rock and classical concerts and seats 2,318. It is a popular venue for  top rock bands (local and foreign), play this venue when they hit Tokyo.

Shibu-Kou (as the hall's name was affectionately abbreviated) also became known at home and abroad as one of Tokyo's foremost rock and pop concert venues.

Shibu-Kou underwent a year of renovations construction in 2005-2006.  Shibuya Kokaido, now renamed Shibuya C.C. Lemon Hall reopened on October 1, 2006. Renovations included: 

• replacement of the dangerously loose exterior tile facade with a new facade;
• asbestos removal to allow replacement of portions of the hall interior;
• replacement of old and worn stage functionalities and apparatus, including replacing a wooden catwalk and the worn floor surface of the stage; and
• installation of new audience seating, including increasing the width of each seat from 450 mm. (18 in.) to 500 mm. (19 in.) (resulting in a reduction of the total number of seats from 2,318 to 2,084)

Festival Hall Osaka Japan - 1959

Festival Hall in Osaka Japan was built in 1958 for the Osaka International Festival (classical music festival). The hall seats 2,709 and is the home to the Osaka Philharmonic Orchestra. Osaka is Japan's second largest city. Bands who  have played here include Led Zeppelin, U2 and Queen.

Nakano Sun Plaza Hall

The Nakano Sun Plaza holds 2,222 seats. It is locatd in Tokyo and is part of a hotel which incorparates the concert hall. The hall features many Japaneses and overseas acts.  In its heyday (from the 1970's to the 1990s) it was regarded as one of the city's premier popular music venues.

The Capitol first opened as a theater in 1928. The ornate movie palace showcased first run movies.  The 2,094 seat venue is considered one of Australia's finest theaters

However, in 1932 the Capitol ran into financial trouble and closed. Throughout the '30's, '40's and '50's, '60's and '70's the Capitol struggled to survive. It would re-opened and then close for years showing less quality films and stage productions. All the while, much of it's former elegance continued to fade away.  Several times it was threatened with demolition. In the mid 70's re-opened as a movie house showing sexploitation films. The theater fell further and further into disrepair.

In the 1980's the Capitol hosted many rock concerts passing through. However, throughout the decade it's future was in question even though it had been designated a National Trust Property.

Finally,  in 1995 Sydney invest $35 million for the Capitol's restoration.

Brisbane Festival Hall

Festival Hall in Brisbane first opened in 1910 as Brisbane Stadium. Like it's sister's venues in other cities, it was originally built as a boxing arena. However, as the sport of boxing decreased in popularity in the 1950's, the arena shut down.  It reopened in 1959 with a new name- Festival Hall and was Brisbane's primary indoor concert venue for more than 40 years. Bands who played here include the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Elton John. 

It closed in 2003 and was subsequently demolished to make way for apartments.

Festival Hall Melbourne was formerly known as The Stadium. It was built in 1915 as a boxing and wrestling stadium.  After a fire in 1955 it was rebuilt for the 1956 Olympics for gymnastics and wrestling.  Festival Hall was known as the original House of Rock and Rol and is famous for its electric atmosphere. This is where the Beatles, Bill Haley, Johnny Cash, The Ramones and the Sex Pistols all played. Festival Hall can accomodate  4586 seating or 5,445 standing.

Thebarton Theatere is probably the most loved medium size venue in Australia.  It has a capacity of 1,955. It is used by young bands breaking into the concert circuit. It was built in 1926 as an assembly hall.
