Teen-on-the-Street Dining Requirements

I wanna go to cool places with you...but pay as little as possible.

Eateries for L.A.'s punk rockers had three main requirements:
  • 1) It had to be in an accessible location, close to the clubs and with a good atmosphere.
  • 2) It should be open long hours (24/7 if possible), offer fast service and be staffed by employees of the I’ve see it all school.
  • 3) And - most importantly - it must provide inexpensive, substantial food that taste good, and doesn’t make you sick.
Almost everyone preferred simple foods like tacos or hamburgers, whether from a sit-down establishment or an outdoor stand.

The favorite cheap eateries in the late 1970's included:
  • Danny’s ‘Oki Dogs’ on Santa Monica Blvd.
  • El Coyote on Beverly Blvd.
  • Dukes Coffee Shop at the Tropicana on Santa Monica Blvd.
  • Canter's Deli on Fairfax Av.
  • Denny's on Sunset Blvd.

Hi....I LOVE your blog! I saw the Go Gos first east coast show I believe, at Hitsville in Passaic New Jersey. My 2 fave bands in the early 80 s were X and the Blasters......

Would you mind dropping me an email? I have a couple questions for you....

Hey! I, too have just discovered your blog, and the great thing about it is, I am at the point when I am staring to wonder "did I see such and such band open for so-and-so?", etc. Your blog puts dates and venues in a linear format, and I read back and remember the March 17th St. Patricks Day Elks gigs, etc. THANK YOU

Oddly enough, I only saw the Go-Go's in LA once, at that Elks gig. Every other time I was in LA they were on the road. I did see them on many occasion in the Bay Area-- California Hall, twice at the Berkeley Square, once at (I believe) the Kabuki Theater, once at (our Bay Area) Greek Theater. Your inclusion of the Textones info is great, too. If Kathy Valentine hadn't joined the band, I don't know where they would have ended up.

Every now and then I think why hasn't someone written a book about the late 70's LA music scene? It was a rich time, indeed, with bands such X, the Blasters, the Plimsouls, the Go-Go's, the Motels etc. You get the idea. And the venues were great, too. And the peripheral things like the food spots, the boutiques, the Family Tree of 70's LA bands and how 'this person played bass in this band before forming that band', etc. I know I am rambling, but my point is that I think YOU are the perfect person to write such a book. I hope you have considered putting all your posts in some sort of book format. I think it is long overdue. Thanks Again, and Best Wishes!! --Pete Maloney

Hi ! I just wanted to say I enjoy your blog very much, it is so interesting to read. You are so lucky to have seen the girls live so many times !

I'd also like to let you know I started a French blog about the Go-Go's : http://gogosfrance.blogspot.com/ I'm trying to gather some French fanbase here, I started it a few days ago so it's still very small. ;)

I hope you'll tell us everything about the Ladies Gone Wild shows you're going to attend.
