Club 88
11784 Pico Blvd.
West LA

Club 88 was located on Pico near Bundy in West LA. It was formerly a strip club on Pico between the 10 and the 405 frwys. Lots of bars and auto repair shops. Perfect for a rock and roll club. Club 88 was one of the first clubs to open up to local bands playing punk music. It was run by a retired Air Force pilot who had flown jets during the Korean War. Club 88 opened in the fall of 1978 and ran until about 1981.

Whisky A Go Go
The GoGo's played the Whisky for the first time.
They open for the Dickies.
Of course...The Germs trashed the place, did lots of damage and are banned from playing there ever again.
As one on-looker said regarding the GoGo's that night - They have a strong sound but I have no idea what their songs are about.

GoGos earning some street creds.
Got a new fun group for you this month-can't help but love them-the GO-GO's. Five really gone-gone girls, direct from the Canterbury (home of new wave happenings). The very petite and pixie-ish Jane Drano seems to be the leader of the group by virtue of her commanding eye contact in the back-up vocal and the 1-2-3-4 count departments.
Lead singer Belinda, smartly tailored in suit, slacks and slick black hair, is a real pouncer on-stage, sort of Black Randy's should sister in the zig-zag, dart, jerk and spin around school; of punk theatrics.
Fluorescent Margot on bass ( I think) seemed to be hesitant about stepping out from behind the shadow of Jane but, gives every indication that she can strut with the best when she has all her fingering memorized. (We got to keep in mind that this was only the second public performance the Go-Go's have had.
Their drummer (no name, drives a Mercedes) seemed very competent in semaphore-signaling the beat while the third ax basher onstage (no name, sorry) looked like she had been borrowed from the Bags and played deeply grooving concentration.
In all, a dynamic set of female rockers.
