Friday, 8:00pm
ON THE GO - I arrived in St. Petes about 3pm. This was my first trip to Florida. The weather
was gorgious - in a hot and humid sort of way. First thing to do was to shed a few coats.
Florida people seems to go for the white t-shirt, Burmuda shorts and the white tennis shoe look. hmmm.......I had nothing like that in my rucksack. But I do have a white coat!
I had a whole day and a half to explore St. Petersburg. That took about 30 minutes.
There's not a whole lot to do in St. Petersburg unless you have a boat. But I did enjoy the warm and breezy climate - just the kind of day to kick back with the locals at a watering hole down at the wharf. Now I'll have that margarita.
THE GET-GO - Jannus Landing is a very cool, old outdoor venue in a courtyard between old brick buildings. It held 200-300 hundred I guess - and a few big trees. All general admission. To one side was a long table selling hooded GoGo sweatshirts, beer and pizza by the slice. I chose the sweatshirt. Yeah!

VERY HIGH NOTE - I got to hang out with Gina awhile before that night's show! (she is a dog lover after all) Doesn't get cooler than that.
We sat out by the hotel pool and chatted about a whole range of subjects. The first thing I thought to ask her was about her ol' classic Corvette she use to have. I loved that car. Other subjects we discussed included: her move to San Francisco, her house, dog rescue (yeah), tattoos, arthritis, drums, gardening, the tour, the set list, playing without Jane, parents getting old, the girls and their personalities, Baltimore, New York, Los Angeles, general health issues, glasses v. contacts, clothes (or lack of), having a cold, on turning 50, ye ol' punk days, computers, friends, family, kids (mine), music, travel and finally...the next tour!
That was about all the questions I could think of on the spur of the moment. However - now I can think of loads more questions.
I told her it's fun when she comes over to the mic and talks to the crowd. I also gave her some of general pointers for the show tonight. ha.
What a sweetheart she was. Real friendly and so funny. Thanks Gina for hangin' with me awhile.
FOR STARTERS - Some local band - easily forgettable.

Just one more show to go-go to. Still not use to all this Get Up and Go.

The view earlier in the day, looking down at the stage from the upper landing. The small stage was raised up about 4 feet - which seemed a bit high- especially when you are right up front.

HOW IT GOES - Kathy came out and made the announcement about Jane having to leave the tour do to her mother's illness. All very sad.
Love the Eddie Sedgwick t-shirt.
Gina came to the mic a couple of times...yeah! Made a comment about being given a mike that didn't work. (yuk yuk) She also made a comment about their tour manager - art wrongway/rightway...anyways - by the way - they were pleased with the big turn out in St Petersburg!
WORTH NOTING - Love the small outdoor venue. Cool people.
Got a place right next to the railing in front/center. Chatted with my Norwegian GoGo friends.
Belinda was a little peeved (at some roadie I guess) that there were no copies of the new lyrics of 'Whole World' to hand out to the audience. Oh no! Off with his head.
LOW NOTE - No Jane.
