2007 October 1 Show #1- Anaheim

ANAHEIM @ The House of Blues
1 October 2007
Monday, 8:00pm

THE GET GO - I drove down to the Downtown Disney district California around 6pm - always a fun time to drive on the 5 freeway through downtown L.A.

I ate dinner at the
House of Blues so that I could get a fast pass (early entry) into the club. One cheeseburger later and I was in line behind 15 or so other fast passers. I chatted with some of these. If front of me were two young girls (ages 12 and 14) with their dad. I knew right away they would be the next generation of die-hard GOGO fans. They told me they had gone to their first GOGO show three years ago (with dad) at the HOB on Sunset. We exchanged notes.

Security let us inside the club around 7:15 pm. We made our way as close to the stage as possible. I was determined to keep the sisters in front of me. -No tall guy was going to block my view. We secured and defended our positions. All the while I kept a lookout for my son who was going to meet me there.

FOR STARTERS
- The show opened up with a group called The PoGos. This all teenage girl-group had Disney stamped all over them. They pounded out five fast GoGo-esque tunes. In fact…two of their songs were GoGo covers! jeez.

Moments before the GoGos took the stage I spotted my son. After much encouragement from me, he muscled his way through the crowd to stand next to me. He is 21 and this is his first GOGO show. He was a little apprehensive about the whole thing. There were not a lot of guys his age in the audiance. Mostly middle-agers with a few daughters tagging along. He didn't have much experience in the way it GoGoes.

THE WAY IT GOES - At 8:45pm, following a bit of canned circus sounding music, the girls made their entrance! What can I say? The show was pure GOGO magic. It was fun, rockin’ and energetic. They even seemed more chatty than usual. Stage antics included a laugh tract and an occasional gassy/fart sound that must have been an inside joke. Who knows? They even handed out the new lyrics to Whole World Lost Its Head for those who wanted to sing along.

Here is my ticket from the show:

WORTH NOTING -
-Afterwards, my son (ultimate music enthusiast and critic) admitted that they were pretty, pretty good. Better than anything he expected. Way to go GOGOs!

-Belinda messed up the lyrics at the end of Head Over Heels.

-They introduced themselves as: Dick Schock, Bud Carlisle, Jorge Wiedlin, Ken Valentine and Chuck.

- They updated the lyrics to Whole World Lost it's Head and handed out sheets of paper with the new lyrics on it to the audience. It went something like this:
Fish can only grow on farms The ozone up and went The village idiot became the US President Fashion is for skeletons Rehab is for kicks And Jesus is a preacher with a tattooed 666 I read it in the paper I see it on my TV...... Kids are burning pirate discs and popping Ritalin American Idol tops the charts cuz karaoke's IN Zsa Zsa's prince thinks he's a daddy Britney's come undone And the billionaire Olson twins Dress like bums (?)
- There was a great review of the show in the Orange County Register - By BEN WENER

HIGH NOTES - Lean and mean! and still punk at heart.
- After saying goodbye to Kevin - I went back inside the venue just to wonder around a bit. I went upstairs to get a view of the stage from up there. Security was clearing out the club and most everyone had gone. I was about to leave when I look across the way to the other side of the balcony. I spotted someone with blond hair and glasses looking down at the stage. It was Gina!
- Goddess of Drumming
- sitting by herself.

Wow! I immediately walked over to her and shook her hand. I told her I really enjoyed the show and how I thought they were the greatest. Kathy then appeared and stood next to her. I smiled but really didn’t know what eles to say. Without the stage and lights and amps... they looked so - well - so little. But they're still goddesses.

LOW NOTES - I walked away thinking…how cool was that? But I should have said something more. I should have at least asked for an autograph or took a picture. How dumb was that, right?

Doing the GOGO report is serious work?
