2007 May 27 San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO @ The Cat Club
27 May 27 2007
Sunday, midnight!

THE GET GO - I drove up to San Francisco with my 20-year old daughter and a visiting cousin. We stayed at the Hotel Nikko in the Union Square district of San Francisco. We were a quick 15 minute walk away from The Cat Club in the SOMA district. Pretty good, eh?

Well, at midnight , this area somehow transforms to another place altogether. Here one quickly encounters the hard under belly of the city - and I'm not talkin' about feral cats either. More like feral people. Walk fast and with a purpose, my basic survival instincts told me. Longest 15 minute walk of my life. Jeez...

FOR STARTERS - The Cat Club had several small adjoining rooms each playing an assortment of 80's era music. The back room had a DJ booth and a couple of big screens on the wall showing vintage 80's new wave videos. This room was very crowded - was a bar too- if you could get to it.

THE WAY IT GOES
-
At midnight, Jane and Gina (our judges) made their entrance onto a small stage area located directly below the DJ booth. They both wore master-of-ceremony type outfits. Very cute.

After a short introduction (and bottomless drinks) our judges were then escorted to a couple of raised chairs on the side of the room. From here they viewed the
lip-sync contest which featured our favorite GOGO songs performed by San Francisco's favorite female impersonators. Jeez...

Our judges then seriously deliberated amongst themselves regarding who should be the winner.

Sometimes our judges didn't agree.

Sometimes they strongly disagreed.

They squabble, they quarrel and they bickered.
They even tussled and wrangled over who should get the prized GOGO T-shirt.

Finally, the prizes were awarded and everyone was friends again.

WORTH NOTING - Lots of trannys have good looking legs.

HIGH NOTES - The water skiers singing Vacation.

LOW NOTES - The thought of walking back to the hotel. So I cabbed it.

I didn't see any cats.
